Whittier

Tucked between towering mountains and Prince William Sound, Whittier is a quirky Alaskan gem. Most of the town lives in a single high-rise building, giving it a unique, close-knit character. The train from Anchorage to Whittier is a must-do, with beautiful views the whole way. Visitors are drawn to its abundant wildlife: bald eagles, hummingbirds, puffins, sea otters, seals, and even whales can be spotted from the shore or on the water. We spent hours searching for the town’s black bear without luck but the resident reindeer was very friendly.
