Whittier

Tucked between towering mountains and Prince William Sound, Whittier is a quirky Alaskan gem. Most of the town lives in a single high-rise building, giving it a unique, close-knit character. The train from Anchorage to Whittier is a must-do, with beautiful views the whole way. Visitors are drawn to its abundant wildlife: bald eagles, hummingbirds, puffins, sea otters, seals, and even whales can be spotted from the shore or on the water. A boat tour from Whittier opens up a world of sparkling glaciers, hidden coves, and rich marine life, making it a perfect gateway to Alaska’s wild beauty. We spent hours searching for the town’s black bear without luck but the resident reindeer was very friendly.
